About Wanzhou
Wanzhou city is located in Three Gorges Reservoir Region, four hours north east of Chongqing and eight hours south west of Sichuan provincial capital, Chengdu.
The city and surrounding area has a history stretching back more than 1000 years. Although much of this history has made way for new development, there are still opportunities to glimpse it at places around the city.

[The centre of the city]
The city, like most of China, is currently being rapidly developed but this is being done with an emphasis on green spaces and improving the local environment. In spite of all the new development the city is still largely un-westernised and the population of foreign residents is still very small. This makes it an ideal place to come if you want to experience what life is like in a typical Chinese city.
It is a very safe city with major crime almost unheard of which makes it a very relaxed place to go exploring on your own.
The people
The people of Wanzhou are friendly and welcoming. Most don’t speak any English but they will always try to help you. When you walk along the streets you will find that people stare at you and maybe say “Lao Wai” which means foreigner. They’re not being rude; they’re just not used to seeing western people walking down the street.
Cost of Living
The cost of living in Wanzhou is very low, especially compared to larger cities such as Beijing or Shanghai. Your salary will allow you to live a very comfortable lifestyle and still have money for travelling or personal savings.
